Translation: |
On the severity of the punishment of the damned, against those who fear more the hardships of the present life than those of the future one.
And we will notice the three main reasons by which we are able to understand that the punishment of the damned will be very severe:
The first reason is knowledge, since the most grievous punishment of the damned will consist in knowing nothing except what they may grieve about; and about their knowledge.
The second is displeasure, since the most grievous punishment of the damned will be never to see their desires fulfilled; and what their desires consist in.
The third is despair, for the most grievous punishment of the damned will be that of being in despair, and the suffrages of the Church cannot benefit or be communicated to them.
