De ieiunio ad quod penitentes debent animari.
Quapropter, in hoc sermone de ieiunii laudibus verba facere arbitratus sum perutile ac necessarium. Nam ad illud per os prophete Ioelis invitat nos s(piritus) s(anctus), ut patet in verbis premissis in themate. In quibus de ieiunio tria mysteria proponimus contemplanda:
Primum dicitur distinctio: de multiplici ieiunio; et quid est ieiunium, prout est pars penitentie sive actus satisfacionis.
Secundum institutio: de institutione ieiunii quadragesimalis et quatuor temporum aliorumque ieiuniorum.
Tertium commendatio: de laudibus ieiunii, quod verbis et exemplis commendatur ab omnibus sanctis tam Veteris quam Novi Testamenti.

On fasting, to which the penitents should be encouraged.
Therefore, in this sermon I believe to be useful and necessary to say a few words in praise of fasting. Indeed, the Holy Spirit invites us to this task through the words of the prophet Joel, as it is clear from the words preached in the thema. On fasting we propose to clarify three mysteries:
The first concerns the distinction: about the many (types) of fasting; and what fasting is, according to whether it is part of penance or an act of satisfaction.
The second concerns the norm: about the establishment of Lenten fasting, the ember days (quatuor tempora), and about other fasts.
The third concerns the recommendation: on the praise of fasting, which is commended by all the saints of both the Old and New Testament through their words and examples.
