Ut ergo voci eius promptiore animo unusquisque pareat et obediat, triplicem modum in oratione observandum ostendemus. Primus modus dicitur expressionis: qualiter in oratione necessaria est vocalis expressio, ut in pluribus, et quare non sufficit orare tantum mentaliter. Secudus modus dicitur attentionis, quod in oratione necessaria est attentio secundum vim prime intentionis; et qualiter hoc modo oratio est fructuosa, licet non sit per omnia attenta. Tertius modus dicitur ordinationis: de ordine in oratione servando et qualiter possumus rogare sanctos tanquam intercessores et advocatos nostros.

On the conditions that are required in prayers, in order for them to be held in the correct manner. Therefore, on this day, I will state some necessary things about the manner of prayer, for we hear Christ the Saviour exhorting us to prayer in the words of the thema. So that each one may be submissive and obey His voice with a more resolute mind, we shall show the threefold way that must be observed in prayer: The first way is called of expression: how in prayer vocal expression is necessary, as in many things, and why it is not sufficient to pray mentally. The second way is said of attention: how in prayer attention is necessary according to the strength of the first intention; and how this way of praying is fruitful, even if it is not totally attentive. The third way is said of disposition: about the order to be observed in prayer and the way in which we can pray to the saints as our intercessors and defenders.
