On the most holy confession.
And, since in the previous sermon we said many things that have encouraged some to be disposed to confess their sins, today we are going to deal again with confession, so that they might be more fervently inspired to carry out their purpose. On which we shall propose to clarify three mysteries, namely:
The first concerns temporality: how some are justified if they do not confess once a year; and whether it is necessary to confess after a sin.
The second concerns quality: how priests, hearing confession, must possess authority, knowledge and goodness of mind; and who can be called an appropriate priest.
The third concerns integrity: how the confession must be whole, so that the penitent confesses all mortal sins and the circumstances that lead to another kind of sin and, in case, venal sins.
