Translation: |
On the foul and pernicious vice of lust, the reason why most men and women are cast into hell.
Therefore, against their opinion (i.e. of those who underestimate the sin of lust), and as decently and without offence to our listeners as possible, we shall deal with this general lust of which the Apostle speaks in the annexed thema, in which he warns (of its dangers) so that all may avoid it. So, on this subject we shall insist on three mysteries:
The first concerns the offence: the refutation of error of those who say that lust is not a sin, which is proven otherwise by the authors and examples of both Saints and philosophers.
The second concerns the condition: how lust makes men foolish and hardens their hearts and induces scandals and many evils.
The third concerns punishment: how God severely punishes lust through the waters of the flood and the burning fire and daily punishes it through temporal scourges.
