Translation: |
On the condemnation of the sin of adultery, whereby most unions are tarnished.
Therefore, in this sermon, we shall clarify some things in opposition to the adulterers, so that they may understand the miserable state and condemnable condition in which they find themselves. We shall therefore deal with adultery and propose to discuss and notice three main mysteries, namely:
The first concerns definition: what adultery is and how it can be interpreted in many ways; and how many believe they are within the marriage bond while they are more adulterous than married.
The second concerns reprobation, since adultery is to be despised because it contradicts honest marriage and induces many scandals and entraps adulterers in many snares.
The third concerns punishment, since all laws, divine as well as ecclesiastical and civil, severely punish adultery.
