Translation: |
On honouring parents according to the example of Christ, who in the Gospel claims to honour the Father, which means in love, subjection and in conversation.
Certainly Christ in today's Gospel claims honouring the Father, so that He may instruct us by his example on what we ought to do. Therefore, on the honouring of parents, we shall clarify three mysteries:
The first concerns love, for we must honour parents for the multiplicity of benefits, for the charity of parents, and for the example of the irrational (i.e. the animal world).
The second concerns subjection: how children should be subject to their parents and the threefold degree of spiritual, temporal and corporal superiority.
The third concerns conversation, how children should converse with their parents with courtesy, humility and piety.
