Translation: |
On the sin of slander, from which those who want pursue a true and God-pleasing penance must abstain.
Since slander is considered by many to be a lesser sin, in the present sermon we shall examine some things about it, showing how convenient it is for penitents to abstain completely from this vice; about which we shall clarify three main mysteries:
The first relates to malignity, since slander is malignant respect to contrariety, to generality and to cruelty.
The second relates to composition, since the vice of defamation is committed in three ways, namely: unfairly, cunningly and faked.
The third concerns offence, since slander offends detractors, listeners and those who endure (i.e. the victims).
