On the truth of the sacrament of the Eucharist in which Christ is truly and really contained.
We must simply believe and firmly acknowledge what we have heard from the Lord Jesus Christ: that his flesh is truly food and his blood truly drink, that is, in the sacrament of the altar in which Christ is truly and really contained; and to prove and to faithfully persuade of this, we shall proceed threefold:
Firstly, through authorities, because theologians, sacred councils as well as the ancient Doctors affirm and profess that, in the sacrament of the altar, the Lord Jesus Christ really is converted into the forms of bread and wine.
Secondly, through reasons, because the truth of the flesh and blood of Christ in the sacrament of the Eucharist can be proven by faithful arguments, even if not conclusively demonstrated.
Thirdly, through examples, as miracles and instances performed in the sacrament of the altar demonstrate the true presence of the body of Christ there.
