In nulla Sacra Scriptura Veteris et Novi Testamenti ostenditur ita clare dulcendo divine misericordie erga peccatores qui revertuntur ad Deum per penitentiam sicut in Evangelio odierno. [...] In hoc sermone volo tenere, modum iuristarum qui quando volunt legere vel disputare, primo ponunt legem in terminis. Deinde determinant difficultates et subtilitates secundum quod requirit materia. [...] Modo punctemus subtilitates, et tria possunt hic punctari:
Primum est de aversione peccatoris criminosa;
Secundum est de conversione penitentis virtuosa;
Tercium est de miseratione Creatoris copiosa.

In Sacred Scripture of the Old and New Testaments, nowhere is the divine mercy towards sinners who turn to God through repentance so clearly demonstrated as in today's Gospel. [...] In this sermon, I intend to follow the method of jurists who, when they want to read or debate, first lay down the law in precise terms. Then they address difficulties and subtleties as required by the subject matter. [...] Now, let us delve into the subtleties, and three points can be emphasized here:
The first concerns the sinful turning away of the sinner;
The second concerns the virtuous conversion of the penitent;
The third concerns the abundant mercy of the Creator.
