1) La prima parte: ieiunii difinitio;
2) La secunda: ieiunii obligatio;
3) La terza: ieiunii fructificatio.

To begin, dear ones, today I want to offer you a brief and useful clarification regarding the concept of holy abstinence; and, for your better understanding, we will follow this order throughout Lent, that is, we will divide each sermon in three parts. So, this first sermon will have:
1) The first part, concerning the definition of fasting; 2) The second part, concerning the obligation of fasting; 3) The third part, concerning the results of fasting. |
Introduction
All things created by God have a purpose (reference to Aristotle’s De caelo), and the purpose of human beings is to know and love God (reference to Augustine); all virtuous actions bring human beings closer to the knowledge of God, but this is especially true with fasting.
