Et in hoc quarta religiositas, que ostentata dicitur, demonstratur, quod omnes carnales amici et propinqui insuper et filios suos parentes ad mundanos fastus incitant et invitant. Sed viri docti et iusti hoc despicientes alios a contemptum talium […] inducunt, intelligentes in quantum Dei odium precipitent talias vanas mentes, sicut Ps. testatur dicens: «Odisti servantes vanitates supervacue» […]. In quibus sacratissimis verbis ostenditur triplex odium Dei contra triplicem pomparum et vanitatum culpam.     • Primum odium est contra mundanas curiositates, ibi: «Odisti observantes», idest curiosos inventores vel sectatores;     • Secundum contra mundanas vanitates, ibi: «Vanitates»;     • Tertium contra mundanas superfluitates, ibi: «Supervacue» idest superflue.

In this the fourth form of religiosity is shown, called the ostentatious one, since all worldly friends and relatives, and even parents, urge and entice toward worldly display. But learned and righteous men, despising these things, lead others to scorn them […], understanding how greatly such vain minds incur God’s hatred, as the Psalm testifies, saying: «You hate those who observe worthless vanities» […]. In these most sacred words a threefold hatred of God is set forth against a threefold fault of pomp and vanity: • first, hatred against worldly curiosities, there: «You hate those who observe», that is, curious inventors and pursuers;     • second, against worldly vanities, there: «vanities»;     • third, against worldly superfluities, there: «worthless», that is, superfluous.
