Simpliciter nempe melius et utilius est […] ad matrem Christi recurrere quam ad alios sanctos inferiores. Quapropter ad excitandam devotionem […] disposui ipsa adiuvante salutationem angelicam declarare ut ostendam quarta religiositas, que est angeli destinati. […] In tota namque serie huiusmodi angelice salutationis triplex principale mysterium per ordinem declaratur:     • primum est salutationis, ibi: «Ave Maria»;     • secundum est commendationis, ibi: «Benedicta tu»;     • tertium est supplicationis, ibi: «Sancta maria mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus».

Indeed, it is simply better and more beneficial […] to have recourse to the Mother of Christ than to other, lesser saints. Therefore, in order to awaken devotion […], I have resolved (with her help) to expound the angelic salutation and thus set forth the fourth form of religiosity, that of the sent angel. […] For throughout the entire sequence of this angelic salutation, a threefold principal mystery is declared in order:     • first, the mystery of salutation, there: «Hail Mary»;     • second, the mystery of commendation, there: «Blessed are you»;     • third, the mystery of supplication, there: «Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners».
